Foundations for the Trades is a state-recognized pre-apprenticeship program designed to equip participants for a successful career in the building trades, specifically within the construction trades. This multicraft pre-apprenticeship program provides selected individuals with the opportunity to discover and develop a skillset they enjoy, enhance their financial situations, and gain a sense of pride in their work. Additionally, it aims to increase the representation of qualified women, minorities, and veterans in the construction building trades. Participants will receive essential employability skills, general training in construction safety, and specialized training in one of six areas of the trades they choose: Electrical, Plumbing & Pipefitting, Bricklayers and Allied Crafts, Installer Technician/Low Voltage, Sheet Metal, and Operators. This project is a collaboration between the Electrical Training Academy and the OhioMeansJobs Centers in Adams, Brown, Pike, and Scioto Counties, with funding provided by the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA).
